ABOUT ME

BIOGRAPHY

From an early age, Natacha Couvelaire was introduced to the visual arts by artists who passed on to her a range of traditional techniques, including silk painting, Japanese painting, watercolor, gouache, and ink. These skills shaped her gaze and sensitivity, teaching her to perceive each detail as a vibration, each composition as a resonance.

Deeply inspired by Asia and the Orient, she composes her works as true visual and sensory stratifications. They are territories to explore, palimpsestic worlds. As the eye lingers, a web of symbols and silent narratives gradually emerges, allowing a multitude of images to coexist within a single kaleidoscope—layered within one another like buried memories or hidden architectures.

Creation then becomes a passage: what first appears obvious begins to vibrate, what seems abstract reveals deeper messages. Each painting unfolds like an initiatory journey: one must accept to get lost, to observe slowly, to be drawn into the currents of movement and light until new layers surface. In this slow unveiling, an infinity of intimate and symbolic resonances is revealed.

In the early 2000s, her practice evolved: she exchanged her brushes for a digital palette, exploring a new form of visual creation. And while her tools have changed, her approach remains that of a painter: each work begins with a blank space and takes shape gradually—without photographs, without pre-existing images.

She has notably developed a body of work in collaboration with a renowned Lyon-based silk manufacturer, producing over fifty pieces printed as unique artworks on silk, at the crossroads between textile and fine art.

Inspiration & technique

Her creative process…

  • A composition designed at its final scale: Each piece is created directly in its intended format, with no enlargement during printing.

  • No use of photography: Her process relies solely on composition and drawing, starting from a blank screen.

  • Guaranteed uniqueness: Each painting is printed as a single, one-of-a-kind piece and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
